A Psalm of Asaph.

God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

A expressão 'deuses' (elohim) gera debate: pode se referir a juízes humanos (autoridades) ou seres divinos secundários em um 'conselho celestial', ideia comum no Antigo Oriente Próximo. A interpretação judaica tradicional favorece juízes, enquanto alguns cristãos veem aqui uma referência à realidade espiritual (cf. salmo 89:5-7).
They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

A menção de 'fundamentos da terra vacilam' é uma metáfora para o colapso da ordem moral. Corrupção sistêmica nas lideranças afetava a estabilidade social – problema recorrente em períodos como o reinado de Acabe (séc. IX a.C.), quando a injustiça era institucionalizada.
