O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

O salmo reflete um lamento coletivo após a destruição do Templo de Jerusalém (586 a.C.), possivelmente durante o exílio babilônico. A 'rejeição' divina era interpretada como consequência da aliança quebrada (comparar com 2rs25:8-9).
