Tiro era uma importante cidade fenícia conhecida por seu comércio marítimo. Sua destruição foi cumprida historicamente por Nabucodonosor (século VI a.C.) e depois por Alexandre Magno (332 a.C.). 'Quitim' refere-se a Chipre, base naval dos fenícios.
