Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
A crítica ao ritualismo religioso ecoa em Provérbios 21:27. Sacrifícios sem sinceridade eram condenados desde os profetas (Is 1:11-17). O Templo de Jerusalém exigia conduta reverente, mas muitos transformavam o culto em mera formalidade.
